When the Day Starts Heavy

Back in 2020, during the remodel of our original studio, I woke up dreading the day. Walls needed painting, no one was available to help, and I was exhausted just thinking about the tasks ahead. I had painted for weeks already. I was ready to dive in, but my heart wasn’t in it.

An Unexpected Call

As I painted our front door blue, my phone rang. My mom told me my grandma had fallen and bruised her hip. With my mom now living out of state, I was the next of kin. Suddenly, my morning of painting became a puzzle including a hospital visit and figuring out how to safely transport my grandma back to assisted living.

Finding Help in the Unexpected

There was no way my grandma was getting into my truck and my plans to get an Uber fell through—COVID had shut everything down. In that moment of frustration, I called my boyfriend, who had never met my grandma. Without hesitation, he drove to meet me at the hospital and stepped in. He lifted her into my truck, followed us back to her home, and put her safely back in her wheelchair. The smile she gave him was unforgettable. She had dementia and more than likely would never remember him, but in that moment, her eyes reflected recognition, trust, and pure connection—a reminder of the goodness in the world.

The Lesson of the Day

That morning taught me something profound: how we begin our day sets the tone for everything. I realized that if I focus on frustration and dread, life delivers more of it. But if I grow gratitude, positivity, and intention, the universe meets me there. I also recognized the incredible support system around me and the blessing of being able to serve and honor my grandma.

Starting Your Day with Guidance

You can invite this same sense of support and peace into your mornings with a simple practice:

  1. Pause upon waking and take a deep breath.
  2. Invite guidance:
“Spirit guides, angels, God/Universe, please walk with me today. Guide me and help me align with my highest good.”
  3. Move through your morning knowing you are supported.

Even the smallest moments of gratitude and intention can ripple into bigger blessings, guiding your day and opening your heart to the good around you.

And Remember, It’s Okay to Forget

Some mornings, you will forget to call in your guidance—and that’s completely human! The beauty is, your guides walk with you every day, whether you remember to ask or not. When you do remember, simply call them in. Even a quiet whisper or a thought of gratitude reconnects you to their support. Life is not about perfection—it’s about practice, presence, and remembering that you are never alone.
