Rewriting Our Relationship with Our Bodies
For many of us, health has become something we chase.
Another diet.
Another workout.
Another supplement.
Another program.
Another promise that this one will finally fix us.
We’ve been taught that health is something we earn through discipline.
That our bodies need to be controlled.
Corrected.
Punished.
Restricted.
Somewhere along the way, wellness became exhausting.
But what if being healthy was never meant to feel so complicated?
What if your body has never been working against you?
What if your body has been working for you this entire time?
The mantra “Being Healthy Is Easy” isn’t about pretending healing is simple or that every illness can be wished away.
It’s about releasing the belief that your body is broken.
It’s about remembering that health is your body’s natural state.
Your Body Is Always Listening
Just like your mind listens to your thoughts…
Your body listens to your environment.
To your stress.
To your emotions.
To your relationships.
To your beliefs.
To your nervous system.
Every moment your body is asking one question:
Am I safe?
When the answer is yes…
Healing begins.
Digestion improves.
Inflammation settles.
Sleep deepens.
Energy returns.
Creativity expands.
The body does what it was designed to do.
Your Body Has Never Been Your Enemy
This may be one of the most important truths you’ll ever hear.
Your body has never been trying to punish you.
It has been trying to protect you.
Fatigue isn’t failure.
It’s communication.
Inflammation isn’t punishment.
It’s communication.
Pain isn’t betrayal.
It’s communication.
Anxiety isn’t weakness.
It’s communication.
Weight isn’t your worth.
It’s communication.
Even symptoms are often the body’s way of saying,
“Please listen.”
For years we’ve been taught to silence symptoms instead of becoming curious about them.
But curiosity creates connection.
And connection creates healing.
The Stories We Inherited
Just like our beliefs about life and money, many of our beliefs about health didn’t begin with us.
Perhaps we inherited stories like:
- My body is the problem.
- Aging means decline.
- Healthy eating is overwhelming.
- I never have enough time to take care of myself.
- Rest is lazy.
- My worth depends on how I look.
- I have to earn my food.
- Exercise is punishment.
Some of these beliefs came from family.
Some came from culture.
Some came from the wellness industry itself.
Others were passed through generations that survived by pushing through exhaustion because they had no other choice.
These stories become familiar.
And familiarity often disguises itself as truth.
But awareness gives us a choice.
We can continue repeating inherited beliefs…
Or we can create a new story.
Health Begins with Safety
The body heals best when it feels safe.
Not perfect.
Safe.
Safety is found in nourishment.
In movement that brings joy instead of punishment.
In deep breathing.
In quality sleep.
In moments of stillness.
In laughter.
In meaningful connection.
In choosing compassion over criticism.
When the nervous system begins shifting from survival into regulation, the body can finally redirect energy toward healing instead of protection.
Health isn’t something we force.
It’s something we support.
Health Is a Relationship
We often treat our bodies like projects.
Something to fix.
Something to improve.
Something to criticize.
But what if your body isn’t asking to be managed?
What if it’s asking to be loved?
Health is not a destination.
It’s a relationship.
It’s learning to ask each day:
“What does my body need today?”
Some days the answer is movement.
Some days it’s nourishing food.
Some days it’s strength training.
Some days it’s yoga.
Some days it’s rest.
Some days it’s crying.
Some days it’s laughing until your stomach hurts.
Listening is one of the healthiest things we can do.
Small Choices Create Big Healing
Healing rarely happens all at once.
It happens through tiny moments repeated consistently.
Choosing water.
Taking a walk.
Stretching for five minutes.
Going to bed earlier.
Taking one deep breath.
Stepping outside.
Saying no.
Receiving help.
Offering yourself grace.
Small choices become new habits.
New habits become a new lifestyle.
A new lifestyle becomes your new story.
Being healthy doesn’t require perfection.
It simply requires partnership with your body.
A Practice to Begin
Place your hand over your heart.
Take a slow breath.
Repeat softly:
“I choose to listen to my body.”
“My body is not my enemy.”
“I nourish myself with compassion.”
“My body knows how to heal.”
“Being healthy is easy.”
Notice what comes up.
Notice where your body feels tension.
Notice where judgment still lives.
Then replace judgment with curiosity.
Ask yourself:
“What is my body trying to tell me today?”
Then simply listen.
